New robotic platform for wind turbine blade maintenance

Developing a robotic maintenance platform for wind turbine blades.

We officially start the long journey of developing a robotic maintenance platform for wind turbine blades, designed to move beyond inspection-only robotics toward industrial-scale blade maintenance. The system is being built around seven operator-driven requirements:
  1. High efficiency, i.e. the system can be deployed in half to one hour.
  2. High reliability, i.e. the system won't break or crash.
  3. Fail-safe recovery, i.e. when the system detaches from the blade, it can be reattached quickly and safely.
  4. High payload, i.e. 30-70kg or more.
  5. Long endurance, i.e. continued operation for 8 hours or more.
  6. Deployment versatility, i.e. applies to onshore, offshore and floating wind turbines.
  7. Economic scalability.
Our Phase-1 prototype (5-10kg) will demonstrate the critical deployment and attachment sequence on a blade sample, creating the evidence needed for larger funding, strategic partnerships, and future commercial development across onshore, offshore, and floating wind turbines.
